One of the biggest events in horse racing is today

The Kentucky Derby

Even if you really aren't into horse racing there's
something about this race that is fun to watch
All this talk about horses got me thinking about
all the great ways to decorate with the Equine theme
There are even some great items at Etsy

Here's a great Hermes silk scarf
Isn't this room gorgeous?
The horse painted on this barn door style
wall treatment makes such a great statementThe rich dark paneling makes the perfect backdrop
for this over-sized oil painting
or this one for that matterWhat elegant
and cool barn style doors
English Manor style decorating
displaying riding boots
Such casual, elegant

Ralph Lauren style
Wall Art
and Scultpures
Relaxed Furniture
and Accessories

Vintage
Trophies
and Loving Cups
and Cool Vintage
Prize Ribbons
make a casual yet sophisticated surrounding for horse lovers!
The Kentucky Derby
is a horse racing event held at Churchill Downs in
Louisville, Kentucky every May since 1875

Celebrities can be seen here
and people get all dressed up and
and wear big
or outrageous hats
and drink Mint Juleps
and watch the fastest horse win
the race called "The Run for the Roses"
Has anyone ever gone to this event?
Maybe you have special traditions,
or have or go to a party when you
watch this race on TV that you'd like to share so....

Oh Gail you really captured the sophistication of the derby!

I often struggle with the decision to move to our farm & raise the kids with horses but to be honest....it is just WAY too close to my in-laws :) & they would be over every single day! but you are really starting to nudge me :) The decor would be PERFECT! & our old barn fell down in a tornado last year so we have a ton of old barn wood to decorate with...oh Gail...why do you make this harder on me by tempting me :) Super cool!!! & I think I will see if I can find a virgin mint Julip recipe for my family tonight! THanks!
As a horse owner I particularly enjoyed this post, horse riding is rather like yachting - everything that goes with it is beautiful and noble. Providing, that is, you forget about the muddy boots, broken paddock fences, mucking out stables, ..... I think you're right, let's just stick to the images.
Looks like an amazing painting on the dark panelling, I'd have loved to see that one close up.
Thank you, Sharon
